Most model railroads have more locomotives than they really can use at one time. We tend to like motive power and accumulate as much as we can. My Santa Fe is no different than any others. I have tried to put together a fairly representative roster of Santa Fe diesels that were around in 1989. Below is a list by type, the number of units and manufacturer information. All have been given standard Santa Fe detailing, including air conditioners, antenna planes, correct horns, anti climbers where appropriate, and the SD40-2 snoots have been given correct Cannon noses and anti climbers. All units are equipped with DCC decoders. Several of the SD40-2 units have been rewired or converted to dummies. A few were scrapped. I started adding a few units with sound since 2005. Most sound I like, but too much running at one time becomes distracting and to some people, annoying. So their operation during a session is limited. The main complaint from crews is that they distract their attention while they are switching and trying to hear on the radios.
