Top Deck - The Oklahoma Sub Mainline The top deck represents the mainline from Arkansas City Kansas to Gainesville Texas. The modeled portion is from Guthrie through Oklahoma City to Flynn Yard on the south side of Oklahoma City. Staging for Arkansas City and Gainesville is provided. Guthrie is also the junction for the Enid District. The visible mainline from Arkansas City enters Guthrie under a highway bridge and curves through the city. The switch for the Enid District is just out of sight under the bridge. Guthrie contains a large flour mill/grain elevator complex called Stapleton Milling, which is named after a fellow modeler who lives a block away. Another industry is Stench Chemical, which is modeled loosely on a kitbash article by Art Curren published years ago. There is also a large manufacturing plant, Territorial Industries, and a couple of small plants. There is a road switcher that works to Guthrie from Oklahoma City. Guthrie also has a preserved depot, which is not the correct design for Guthrie, but is a stand in for the real Guthrie depot. The mainline continues around the top deck to Edmond Oklahoma, with industries including a structural steel plant and a Dolese Cement plant. Next in line is Britton Oklahoma, which has Cain’s Coffee, a Purina Feed Mill and a smaller industry. Just south of Britton is the lead to Nowers Yard, a small yard north of downtown Oklahoma City which also on my version, allows access to the UP track to Shawnee (staging), plus an industrial area north of the old union station. The mainline through downtown is elevated as is the prototype, crosses the Canadian River, and then arrives at Burnett Oklahoma and Flynn yard, both on the south side of Oklahoma City. Flynn yard is the main yard, and also has another line curving off toward Midwest City and the GM auto plant, which also has a yard. Flynn yard also serves an industrial area. The south end of Flynn yard is also the beginning of the Gainesville staging tracks. |
